The COVID pandemic has shuttered hundreds of public events, but one organization has found a way to keep the tradition alive. The Days of ’47 KUTV Pops Concert, normally held in Abravanel Hall, will go online this year starting July 11th.<br/><br/>
It wasn’t easy to put together. “The talented people involved in this concert stepped into a new world,” said Sterling Poulson, director of the Choral Arts Society of Utah, which will be performing. “Many for the first time had to sing or play alone, and at the same time follow a video of me conducting a recording of the piece in their ear while recording their performance. Over 100 musicians stepped firmly, as technology pioneers, into the 21st Century.”<br/><br/>

<h2>Days of ’47 Parade</h2>
<p>
The Days of ’47 Parade will be held on Friday, July 24th, 2026, in downtown Salt Lake City beginning at 9:00 am.
For a new adventure, bring the kids, the sleeping bags and the hot dogs downtown on the evening of the 23nd.
You can camp out on Salt Lake City streets along the route that evening.
This is the biggest sleepover your family and friends will ever experience!
Remember to bring enough water to keep everyone hydrated.

<h2>PIONEER STORIES: FOUNDATION FOR THE FUTURE - By Kent Norton</h2>
<p>
Many of today’s Utah residents have ties to Pioneers, who came here from far-away places and diverse
backgrounds, for many different reasons. Faith and determination overcame fear and discouragement;
they made their way through countless trials, over the next horizon, day after day, mile after mile, until
they arrived at journey’s end – and the beginning of a new life. Streams were diverted, crops were
planted, timber was cut – new communities were born. Wilderness gave way to work, and worship –
and pioneering became our creed.
</p><p>
Now -- in the 21 st century -- we are the beneficiaries of all the labors they performed, all the sacrifices
they made -- and especially the life lessons they taught. In large part, those blessings come to us
through the stories of their pioneering lives.
</p><p>
What is your favorite pioneer story? Who is it about? What is your connection to them, and how has
their story made a difference in yours? Often, when we contemplate the difficulties of their day, we are
tempted to think we could never be that brave or strong – but if they could see our time, they might be
equally intimidated by our modern challenges.
</p><p>
The supporters of The Days of ’47, Inc. are devoted to remembering and honoring the Pioneers of our
past. We do so by way of the events we organize and sponsor, and by providing opportunities to gather
and celebrate – but all of us can do so, by telling and re-telling – as often as we can – the stories of their
remarkable lives. After the parade has passed and the rodeo has gone away for another year, we can
pay no greater tribute to our pioneer heritage than to build a solid future on the foundation they built
for us.

Let’s help the rising generation to appreciate who they are, and where they came from, and what they
have, by telling them the stories of the pioneers who came before them -- and made today’s Utah
possible. More importantly, let’s help them believe that they too can be pioneers – by embracing the

dreams come true. They can change the world for the better; they can do hard things, and grow, and
become the kind of people who others will tell great stories about someday, and say,

<h2>Background Information About Our Annual Celebration</h2>
<p>On July 24, 1847, Brigham Young and a determined company of Mormon pioneers realized their dreams upon entering the Great Salt Lake Valley, thus becoming the vanguard of one of the greatest treks in American history. Pulling handcarts or driving wagons with oxen or horses, thousands of pioneers carried a firm commitment to America’s belief in freedom of religion as they slowly trudged across the plains to a vast desert landscape that became known as the Utah Territory. Coming together from many nations, they sought to create a new life. This trek of the early Utah pioneers exemplifies the courage, foresight and faith that continue to inspire modern-day pioneers.</p>
<p>By remembering those remarkable 1847 pioneers and all those who followed, The Days of ’47 seeks to make their accomplishments and hardships live today through a variety of activities and celebrations each year. We believe the example of past and present pioneers’ courage creates a vision for our combined future that everyone can follow as our new Pioneer Spirit!</p>
<p>The Days of ’47, Inc. is a private, nonprofit, all-volunteer, charitable corporation to honor Utah’s early and modern pioneers and to keep their pioneering spirit alive.</p>
