Now I know I'd featured him/them/it before and I took a look....yep, back in May of 2019.</p><p>Of course then I was featuring a pair of free downloads, but I discovered the files weren't being hosted on the Lord Zsezse Works website so most of my old post's links were now 404'd.</p><p>I went ahead and updated the links to where they are now located on <a href="https://legacy.drivethrurpg.com/browse/pub/3154/Lord-Zsezse-Works?page=1&sort=3a" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">DriveThruRPG</a>, and I even went ahead and did a sort by price so the four freebies are at top, followed by the Pay What You Want offerings.</p><p>I just noticed that there were four old freebies and they are not the same as the current crop of freebies, so maybe this isn't that much of a recycle.....</p>

I use AI regularly, but probably not to it's potential and definitely not as a creative tool. Now if I was smart maybe I'd type up my posts here and have ChatGPT give it a once-over for editing so I wouldn't have to correct so many spelling mistakes and my grammar would be better, but I prefer using it as a database and/or file conversion tool. I'm not going to spend days typing in my recipes into my new cookbook software....<p></p><p>...but I digress....as I do, and as AI would remove completely.</p><p>....Anyway, this week's Free GM Resource is <a href="https://www.pocketbard.app/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Pocket Bard</a>, a TTRPG audio app where "<span style="font-family: courier;">Every note, sound, and piece of art in Pocket Bard is thoughtfully crafted by real humans. We work with talented composers, musicians, and visual artists because we believe in supporting our creative community!</span>"</p><p>I don't know what the TTRPG audio equivalent of AI generated seven finger hands is, but I'm sure it wouldn't be pretty. The app <i>is</i> a paid app (<i>$6.99/mo $49.99/yr</i>) but it has a free trial/option and it works on Android, iOS, Windows, and Mac, so it does have a bit more functionality than just an app (<i>I don't know about you, but when I hear "app" I only think of mobile devices</i>)</p><p>The <a href="https://www.pocketbard.app/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Pocket Bard</a> website has some sample audio to check out so you don't have to download & register the app to see if you might like it. Big bonus IMNSHO.....</p><p>In the free collection you can sample:</p><p></p><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>Fantasy Essentials</li><li>Sci-Fi</li><li>Seafaring</li><li>Desert</li><li>Cozy (Lo-Fi)</li></ul><p></p><p>There are five other collections listed for the paid (Open Worlds) section and there are a lot of sub-categories for each collection (<i>Fantasy Essentials had 17!</i>).</p><p>Is <a href="https://www.pocketbard.app/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Pocket Bard</a> for everyone.....certainly not. I used quotes because some of the map generation is free, and the rest is locked behind a Patreon paywall. There are four main categories: Dungeon, Tavern, Wilderness, and Road. Of course there are sub-categories and tweaks you can choose from, but those options are mostly for Patrons. Still, the freebie options aren't bad. The maps look hand-drawn and you can choose different grid options.<p></p><p>The maps are not AI generated, but I guess they are procedurally generated using various Dungeondraft assets.</p><p>I could see using some of these in a pinch. The scale is just a tad off, but damn close. The biggest reason for this is that "they" are entering into a bit of a heavy advertising for their <a href="https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/alkemion/alkemion-studio" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">upcoming Kickstarter for an upcoming Desktop stand-alone version of Alkemion Studio</a>.<p></p><div>The original web app though....not only completely free (<i>and intending to remain so</i>), but realistically where you want to be starting anyway. Setup an account, play with the program, and if that's as far as you go, no problem....BUT if you're thinking you might want an offline version, then you can back the Kickstarter a bot better informed.</div><div><br /></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/OE0cW2OFjss" width="320" youtube-src-id="OE0cW2OFjss"></iframe></div><br />Personally this is the kind of electronic aid I really want, but doubtful that I'll personally use it because I recently (<i>within the last week!</i>) bought another program that does a lot of the same things as Alkemion Studio, although I'm not sure it can do the random table generators this studio is supposed to be able to do. I think it's a great (not free) resource, but checking them out is free, which is the twofer. Now I don't know about trying to do Toastmasters online, but if <a href="https://www.facebook.com/DungeonsAndToast/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Dungeons & Toast</a> can make it work, then you might be able to as well.</p><p>Seriously though, I think Toastmasters can help anyone become a better player or GM. Anything that helps you speak and interact with other people can't be a bad thing.</p><p>The freebie is from the Dungeons & Toast website and it is a <a href="https://dungeonsandtoast.com/resources/backgrounds/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">collection of Zoom backgrounds</a>. Now clearly your mileage may vary, but my "home" group is largely based in the Dallas/Ft Worth Metroplex, but I am most definitely not. I really could've used one of these background last weekend when we gamed.</p><p>Now all of the backgrounds are not available to outsiders, but there are plenty of backgrounds you might find useful, and if you're free Friday nights (<i>except last Friday of the month</i>) at 6:45pm to 8:30pm PST....</p>

Sad part is that while I had moved to just 3 hours from the convention in 2018, the job I had moved cross-country for on May 31st told me June 1st that I wasn't going to be hired/there wasn't a job anymore. Not cool and I was if low-key freak-out mode so spending money to attend a convention wasn't high on my priority list.<p></p><p>I mention this mostly because this year's convention was similarly tainted because I was losing my job the day after the con. There is a "Pre Con, Get it On" Wednesday. It was nice to be able to casually make my way to Dallas and seemingly have all the time in the world to chill before the convention. I was a little surprised how many people came in on Tuesday, but with some games available on Wednesday, it made sense. </p><p>The last few months I have been seeing these tiny Jesus figures seemingly <i>everywhere</i>. I think it's a low-key campaign directed at me somehow.....ok, not really, but I have been finding them all over the place and never really expected.</p><p>Now the weatherman (<i>ok website/Google</i>) said there was a low chance of brief rain for a day or two of the convention, but Tuesday would be clear. This year I was trying to have a sales booth in the dealer hall and had packed my stuff in cardboard boxes. Of course there was a torrential downpour pretty much every....single...day. Before the heavy stuff really came down I was that guy and backed my truck right up to the convention space entrance. So if you didn't know there is a tiny pedestrian overhang for that entrance. It is so not a loading dock, but this entrance wasn't really being used because it was a good day early. I unpacked my loading cart and started off-loading before the boxes got soaked. He completely got what & why I was pulled up like I was. Once I got "everything" (<i>I had already checked in and took my luggage up to my room</i>) unloaded and inside he casually told me that the dealer room had just been finished setting up and when I asked if I could drop off or set up already he was cool with it. We also ran into <a href="https://www.facebook.com/gary.oliver.336" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Gary</a> and<a href="https://www.facebook.com/lisa.l.oliver.5" rel="nofollow" target="_blank"> Lisa</a> Oliver checking in. After I was unloaded I grabbed a couple bottles I had gotten for the Olivers and headed over. They had a gift for me as well and gave me this pretty cool Whiskey book. I've barely started reading it, but it has some really early history of American whisky, which is a fascinating subject for me. I did grab some quick dinners a couple times when he was in games so my food expenses were not zero....but cheaper than if I had just stayed home. I didn't really expect him to hang out at the booth, but he was planning on it and came loaded for bear....he even had a pink name tag that read "Booth Babe", and his name of course. Smart move or someone might have asked to "borrow" the name tag.<p></p><p>Thursday went well enough and in the evening we had what I'm assuming....hard to remember, was the 6th (<i>or 7th depending on POV</i>) annual Whisky Tasting. Despite all of my best efforts we did not have a full group, which torqued me a little bit, but we had "observers" who were able to jump in and take part which was awesome in my book. I have a few new friends/associates now and got to try some cool....alcohol in what ended up being a in-place "after party". The only part of the night that was actually bad was that I had totally boned things up by not giving specific instructions on the little "test" I had at the end. That and I should have made the test easier. Live & learn.</p><p>With the exception of Saturday's auction, my days were filled manning my booth and the evenings...well at this point there's just Friday and Saturday, with games. I ran one and played one. The game I ran was just "ok". It wasn't my players, it was me. I think I had things set up enough, but the players got a randomly-determined magic sword that could detect trap and secret doors. This let them pretty much steam-roll through the dungeon. They did a great job turning a big monster fight into a couple of relatively easy smaller fights and the BBG of the dungeon rolled really good for a reaction roll and basically told the party to eff off....and they did. My biggest mistake of the night, and it's my opinion there is <i>always</i> a mistake made every session, was that I completely forgot to roll for wandering monsters. I had a freaking sub table for the dungeon and everything! The night was relatively combat light because there should have been a couple of wandering monsters. To be fair though, the party did do a good job of minimizing the combat there was already, which might not have been the case if they had those wandering monsters.</p><p>I played in a pick-up game Saturday before the midnight auction. I probably should have taken that opportunity to rest up because I was a mess Sunday, and that was <i>before</i> the drive home. It wasn't an unsafe drive or anything, just tired. I swear that everything I buy from them is either a sweet deal, or probably 20% overpriced, but clearly something I'm willing to pay. For the record, the "overpriced" stuff, I'm happily paying over alleged value because I get to hold the damn thing in my hands versus having to buy at an auction and trust it was accurately described and then paying for shipping & handling and pray it wasn't destroyed in transport. Manda is known more for her video game work and probably more so for being married to Jeff Dee (of TSR & Villains and Vigilantes fame). There was something that just "got me" on this piece and I would've sworn I have seen this before....like in a weird déjà vu kind of way. She painted this piece this year at the convention, but evidently she had started it last year at the convention, so I probably <i>had</i> actually seen it last year. Still not sure where I'm going to put this. It's more than just a drag & drop text into the page for auto-formatting, although there is a fair bit of that as well.<p></p><p>The site steps you through the process of working with the CSS that makes the webpage works.</p><p>The results are pretty cool, even if you don't care about 5th edition, I could see anyone wanting to pretty up their work using this page.
