<p>Global Energy Monitor is a NGO that develops and analyzes data on energy infrastructure, resources, and uses. We provide open access to information that is essential to building a sustainable energy future.

<h2><span class="mw-headline" id="About_GEM.Wiki">About GEM.Wiki</span></h2>
<p>Global Energy Monitor provides comprehensive datasets of individual energy assets and publishes factsheets for each facility on GEM.Wiki--whether it's a coal mine, oil pipeline, solar farm, and so on.
</p><p>The GEM.Wiki project is based on MediaWiki, a software platform developed by the Wikipedia Foundation that allows anyone to edit existing articles and create new ones. A key feature of wiki software is that each successive version of an article is saved along with a time stamp and a brief description of the change.

<h2><span class="mw-headline" id="Documenting_the_Global_Energy_System">Documenting the Global Energy System</span></h2>
<p>GEM.Wiki currently has information on all 25 of Global Energy Monitor's open-source datasets. The current roster of trackers is available for direct download on GEM's website:

<h3><span class="mw-headline" id="Energy_Transition">Energy Transition</span></h3>
<ul><li><a rel="nofollow" class="external text" href="https://globalenergymonitor.org/projects/global-integrated-power-tracker/"><b>Global Integrated Power Tracker</b></a>: is a multi-sector dataset of power stations and facilities worldwide.</li></ul>
<ul><li><a rel="nofollow" class="external text" href="https://globalenergymonitor.org/projects/global-energy-transition-tracker/"><b>Global Energy Transition Tracker</b></a>: is an open platform of energy data and information on specific regions, or “iconic zones,” that have the potential to engage civil society in transitioning away from fossil fuels towards renewable energy.</li>
<li><b><a rel="nofollow" class="external text" href="https://globalenergymonitor.org/projects/global-methane-emitters-tracker/">Global Methane Emitters Tracker</a></b>: provides estimates of fossil fuel emissions at oil and gas and coal extraction sites, natural gas transmission pipelines, proposed projects and reserves, and attribution of remotely-sensed methane plumes.</li>
<li><a rel="nofollow" class="external text" href="https://globalenergymonitor.org/projects/latin-america-energy-tracker"><b>Latin American Energy Tracker</b></a>: tracks power plants, pipelines, LNG terminals, extraction areas, coal mines, wind farms, and solar farms located in Latin America and the Caribbean.</li></ul>
<h3><span class="mw-headline" id="Coal">Coal</span></h3>
<ul><li><a rel="nofollow" class="external text" href="https://globalenergymonitor.org/projects/global-coal-plant-tracker/"><b>Global Coal Plant Tracker</b></a>: provides information on coal-fired power plants generating 30 megawatts (MW) and above; catalogs operating coal-fired generating units, new units proposed since 2010, and units retired since 2000.</li>
<li><b><a rel="nofollow" class="external text" href="https://globalenergymonitor.org/projects/global-coal-mine-tracker/">Global Coal Mine Tracker</a></b>: dataset of coal mines and proposed coal projects that includes operating mines producing 1 million tonnes per year or more, with smaller mines included at discretion.</li>
<li><b><a rel="nofollow" class="external text" href="https://globalenergymonitor.org/projects/global-coal-terminals-tracker/">Global Coal Terminals Tracker</a></b>: dataset of import, export, and domestic coal terminals, and new projects.</li></ul>
<h3><span class="mw-headline" id="Oil_and_Gas">Oil and Gas</span></h3>
<ul><li><b><a rel="nofollow" class="external text" href="https://globalenergymonitor.org/projects/global-oil-gas-extraction-tracker/">Global Oil and Gas Extraction Tracker</a></b>: dataset of oil and gas extraction including areas that have production of 1 million boe/yr or more and/or reserves of 25 million boe or more, or have been previously included in GOGET.</li>
<li><b><a rel="nofollow" class="external text" href="https://globalenergymonitor.org/projects/global-oil-infrastructure-tracker/">Global Oil Infrastructure Tracker</a></b>: dataset of crude oil and natural gas liquids (NGL) transmission pipeline projects and their development; includes all global oil transmission pipelines and all in-development NGL transmission pipelines of pre-determined size thresholds.</li>
<li><b><a rel="nofollow" class="external text" href="https://globalenergymonitor.org/projects/global-gas-infrastructure-tracker/">Global Gas Infrastructure Tracker</a></b>: dataset of natural gas transmission pipeline projects and liquified natural gas (LNG) import and export terminals; includes all LNG terminals regardless of threshold, and gas transmission pipelines over predetermined size thresholds.</li>
<li><b><a rel="nofollow" class="external text" href="https://globalenergymonitor.org/projects/global-oil-gas-plant-tracker/">Global Oil and Gas Plant Tracker</a></b>: dataset of oil and gas-fired power plants; includes units with capacities of 50 MW or more (20 MW or more in the European Union and the United Kingdom).</li></ul>
<h3><span class="mw-headline" id="Heavy_industry">Heavy industry</span></h3>
<ul><li><b><a rel="nofollow" class="external text" href="https://globalenergymonitor.org/projects/global-iron-and-steel-tracker/">Global Iron and Steel Tracker</a></b>: provides information on global crude iron and steel production plants, and includes every plant currently operating with a capacity of five hundred thousand tonnes per year (ttpa) or more of crude iron or steel.</li>
<li><b><a rel="nofollow" class="external text" href="https://globalenergymonitor.org/projects/global-iron-ore-mines-tracker/">Global Iron Ore Mines Tracker</a></b>: provides information on global iron ore mines, including all operating, proposed, shelved, retired or mothballed mines since 2023.</li>
<li><b><a rel="nofollow" class="external text" href="https://globalenergymonitor.org/projects/global-cement-and-concrete-tracker/">Global Cement and Concrete Tracker</a></b>: provides information on global integrated and grinding plants, including all cement plants that have been proposed or under construction since 2018 and retired or mothballed since 2021 .</li>
<li><b><a rel="nofollow" class="external text" href="https://globalenergymonitor.org/projects/global-chemicals-inventory/">Global Chemicals Inventory</a></b>: provides information on global production of eight “building block” chemicals: ethylene, propylene, and butadiene (“olefins”); benzene, toluene, and xylene (“aromatics”); ammonia; and methanol.</li></ul>
