🎬 This week, we marked #Pride with a docUNight screening of ‘Queens of Joy’ — a documentary that follows 3 Ukrainian drag queens amid Russia’s full-scale invasion of #Ukraine.
‘It affects all spaces you are in, and you can never really escape it. […] Drag — them insisting on being themselves is also resistance against the attack. […] If their partner dies at the frontline, they might be kicked out of their apartment because they are not recognised as partners. ‘It’s about their courage to insist on that life in one of the most challenging life circumstances anyone can have, and that’s active war. […] Social protection that’s in a country that would have been there before, now completely dissolves because of the crisis, and probably the community centre where they’ve been able to go before, and where there would be someone who would help, has been bombed away, so it doesn’t exist anymore. […] It is about the rule of law, good governance, and ensuring that we continue to address issues around human rights. 🇺🇳 “Diversity is a fact — and inclusion and equality are the choice we must make. The moment we do that, we fulfill the right to dignity,” emphasised Ulla Elisabeth Müller, Director of the @unfpa Nordic Representation Office, speaking on behalf of the UN City Copenhagen Senior Leadership Team.
💬 “At its heart, Pride is about human rights. It is about the values that define the United Nations: equality, inclusion, and solidarity,” said Assistant Secretary-General and @unops_official Deputy Executive Director Sonja Leighton-Kone.

🕊️ Presenting the 2026 @globalpeaceindex, Thomas Morgan offered a sobering assessment: ‘It’s the 12th consecutive year that peacefulness has deteriorated. […] There were 99 countries that deteriorated compared to 62 that improved. […] Recorded drone strikes grew from 364 to over 42,000 in 8 years. […] A lot of the connections between countries are increasingly being weaponised.’
Mona Kanwal Sheikh (DIIS) reflected: ‘We see a lot of layers of conflicts, and private actors involved in escalation and de-escalation processes. […] The same conflict can mean different things for different stakeholders, and we have to be able to intellectually embrace that. […] Conflict resolution and peacemaking can happen in different places than we’re used to.’
🇺🇳 Henrik Fredborg Larsen @undpdenmark spotlighted: ‘The report illustrates the brutal impact of deterioration, but also the inequality in how that is felt by people across the world. […] I was in Moldova a few weeks ago. You had 850 million attacks on the server of the Electoral Commission on election day. We’re stepping in, helping on the resilience, cybersecurity. This is where it is possible, and we have done it from the UN side. […] When we interview thousands of young people and others who have joined violent extremist groups, jobs is the number one reason to joining. Governance is second. […] This is prevention work that can be done. […] We have the data, we know how to respond. Do we have the political will to do it?
